My Disney Time - Week 1: Walt Disney
Welcome to My Disney Time. This first watch that I wanted to share celebrates Walt Disney. This watch came in this pretty wood box. On the front is an iconic photo of Walt Disney strolling through Sleeping Beauty's Castle.
The framed photo slides to reveal the watch that also features the famous photo. The box serves as a special keepsake. The box is like a shadow box. It was made to be mounted on a wall as if it were art work.
One of the reasons I was drawn to this watch was because of the photo. I've heard it referred to as "Footsteps". It was taken by longtime Disneyland photographer Renie Bardeau. You can read about how this photo came about in THIS ARTICLE. The photo does capture One Man's Dream, doesn't it?
The photo on the watch reminds me that it is Disneyland Park where Walt saw his dream come to life. Sleeping Beauty's Castle is the only Disney castle that Walt ever walked through. Walt died in 1966 and Walt Disney World construction did not begin until 1967. Disneyland Cast Members are the only Park group to have ever interacted with Walt Disney in that setting.
On the back of the watch it reads Tribute to Walt Disney. Limited Edition. I have watch 521 of 1,000. The 1000 watches were only distributed and made available within the Walt Disney Theme Park & Resorts. The word THEME is no longer part of the official name today.
I will post a different watch from my Disney collection once a week for this year. It will help me to document my timepieces as well as share some Disney memories.
