Checking out the New Exhibit - Drawing Disneyland: The Early Years
The Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration is well underway and the party keeps getting bigger, better. One reason is something like this new exhibit in the Disney Gallery called "Drawing Disneyland: The Early Years - Imagineers Who Helped Walt's Dream to Life." There are five men and their work featured.
Their backgrounds, experience and art helped to imagine what Disneyland could be. Here are some photos from Drawing Disneyland.
Harry Johnson - Main Street USA
Bill Martin - Fantasyland
John Hench - Tomorrowland
Sam McKim - Fronteriand
Harper Goff - Adventureland
The exhibit is is simple yet well done. They cleverly framed each artwork with a style that corresponds with the artist and land that he was responsible for. For example, Harper Goff's drawings are framed in a bamboo motif to highlight his work on Adventureland.
They also had a couple more pictures in the nearby glass stands. Some of the black and white photos you may have seen and others not. My favorite is the photo with a very young Bob Gurr and the car.
I am going to assume that this display will remain through at least until the actual Disneyland Anniversary, July 17th, if not longer. The artwork is beautiful and inspiring. It's really cool to see what they were thinking of and then compare to what really was created to make Disneyland come alive. You can literally walk out of the exhibit and experience the worlds these Imagineers created with Walt's vision.
