Music Monday: I Wan'na Be Like You (Jungle Book)
There is a lot of buzz with the upcoming live action Jungle Book movie that is due in the theaters April 15th. It made me think of one of the most famous songs from the 1967 Jungle Book animated classic, "I Wan'na Be Like You (The Monkey Song)."
Written by Robert and Richard Sherman, the song is sung by King Louie. The ape character sings this upbeat and high energy song to the main character of Mowgli. King Louie sings of how he wishes to be like a man and wants to know the secret of "man's red fire." This original version of the song has a jazz feel to it.
In the newly released "We Love Disney" compilation CD, the music group, Fall Out Boy, does a really great cover version of "I Wan'na Be Like You." It's got a very updated feel with strains of rock 'n roll. My favorite part is when there is back and forth between the guitar and lead singer, Patrick Stump who can scat. It is really a fun and energetic cover of this song.
Happy, very late, Music Monday!
