Music Monday: One Little Spark
With the passing of Disney Legend, Mary Sklar, I am reminded about his love for this phrase, the song and what it stand for..."One Little Spark." Sklar talked about it in his many appearances. His final book was even titled One Little Spark: Mickey's Ten Commandments and the Road to Imagineering.
The song, "One Little Spark," was written by Disney Legends, Richard Sherman and Robert Sherman. It was Sklar who contacted the Sherman Brothers to begin collaborating with Disney Imagineers on a project for Epcot. "One Little Spark" not only became the song for the attraction Journey Into Imagination, but has become kind of a theme song of Disney Imagineers.
Here's a fun 'behind the story' about this song (video from DAPsMagic)
Sklar was a big advocate of creating original songs. He has spoken of how one song can play a key role for a Disney ride, a Disney movie, a Disney parade and Disney theatrical show. to prove his point, he brings up "it's a small world" as an example and all the various songs that one relates with a particular movie. A song like "Under the Sea" or "I Wanna Be Like You" are immediately associated with their perceptive movie.
For many, not just Disney Imagineers, it can take just "One Little Spark" to build on anything that you can imagine.
